Positive Behaviour Learning

POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING (PBL)

At Theodore Primary School we want to support our students to take responsibility for themselves, others, and the environment and to build and value respectful relationships. Our students should make the most of their learning opportunities and respect the learning needs of other students so that all can achieve their personal best.

At Theodore, our expectation is that all students will be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS. We use the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program to make this happen. PBL is a highly successful researched school-wide behaviour initiative to improve learning outcomes for all students. PBL has been implemented in various states across Australia and internationally. PBL communicates behaviour expectations in the classroom, in the playground and all around the school always. Students are positively acknowledged when they display the expected behaviours. To help remind students of the expectations so they can earn lots of THEOS we will focus on being SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS EVERYWHERE

The expectations for all settings across our school are:

We are SAFE:

We are RESPECTFUL:

We are LEARNERS:

Positive Acknowledgement Reward System

Theodore acknowledges individual students who display our school wide behaviour expectations. Students will be awarded tokens for showing behaviours that align with any of our three behavioural expectations: Safe, Respectful, Learners.

Tokens can be awarded by any staff member in the school at any time during the day. Our behaviour matrix guides staff and students in what specific behaviours we are looking for when giving out tokens. The staff positively acknowledge students demonstrating our expectations by providing specific feedback to students about the behaviour they observed and then the student is handed a token.

Tokens earned by students’ progress them towards awards. These awards are tiered and become more challenging to achieve as the students’ progress.

Acknowledgement System

The PBL team have implementing an Acknowledgement System where students can individually accrue ‘points’ over the course of the year for being SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS. Points are awarded by giving coloured tokens. Tokens are stored in a class box segmented box labelled with the child’s name.

Teachers enter ‘points’ into SAS and regular checks are made by the to ensure students are presented with awards in a timely manner.

A table of the acknowledgement system with Tiers 1 through 6 - 25 Tokens = Bronze certificate, 75 tokens = Silver Certificate, 150 tokens = Gold Certificate, 1000 tokens = Platinum Medal, 2000 tokens = Double Platinum Medal
